Studies on the community of malaria vectors (Culicidae: Anophelinae) in a malaria endemic village of Hargotirto, Kulon Progo, Yogyakarta Province was carried out on March to August 2001. The mosquitoes were collected by using human bait, light traps, and aspirator for resting mosquitoes on the wall of houses and cow barns. The result showed that in Hargotirto village there were four anopheline species, i.e. Anopheles maculatus Theobald, An. balabacencis Baisas, An. vagus Donitz, and An. annularis Giles. An. maculatus shows the highest population density with a relative abundance of 45,54% and the dominance index around 42,82. The population density of An. maculatus was high during the month of June and July, An. balabacencis and An. annularis in August, and An. vagus was high in June. The biting preference of An. maculatus and An. balabacencis was high around midnight (22.00-24.00 o’clock) and An. vagus at 23.00 o’clock. An. annularis was not found biting on human. The parity rates of these mosquitoes were 69,20-91,97%.
