[Skripsi] Essential Oil From Surian (Toona sinensis Roemor) As Biolarvacidal Activity of Dengue Mosquito (Aedes aegypti Linn)

INTRODUCTION. The high society who contracted dengue fever in Indonesia led Indonesia into a country with the highest cases of dengue fever in Southeast Asia. The disease is transmitted by the mosquito Aedes aegypti. Today, the prevention of dengue fever carried by chemical means such as the use of abate, and fogging. However, prevention by chemical result negative impact. The use of natural materials as an alternative preventive can be tried. Essential oils Surian (Toona sinensis) is one alternative are toxic when tested by the method of brine shrimp lethality test (BSLT). Therefore, testing of essential oils as mosquito biolarvacidal A. aegypti interesting when it is done.
ANALYSIS AND METHOD. Essential oils from Surian derived from several parts, consist of the leaves, heartwood, and sapwood. The raw material is refined by the method of steam and water for 12 hours to produce essential oils. Then the calculated yield of essential oil is produced. Testing of essential oils as biolarvacidal made to the twenty fourth instar larvae of mosquitoes A.aegypti with oil concentration of 250 µg/mL, 500 µg/mL, 1000 µg/mL, and 2000 µg/mL. Observations made during 10 minutes, 20 minutes, 30 minutes, 40 minutes, 50 minutes, 1 hour, 2 hours, 3 hours, 4 hours, 5 hours, 6 hours, 24 hours and 48 hours. Larvasida mortality value is calculated as the basis for determining the value of lethal concentration (LC50).
RESULT AND DISCUSSION. Surian essential oil yield values obtained the highest yield of essential oil derived from the heartwood of Surian (0,628%), then the essential oil from sapwood of Surian (0,243%) and the lowest is essential oil from leaf of Surian (0,107%). Biolarvacidal test showed LC50 for the essential oil from leaf of Surian 50,059 µg/mL, the essential oil from heaartwood of Surian 296,495 µg/mL and the essential oil from sapwood of Surian 154,804 µg/mL. All of LC50 value of essential oils in various parts of Surian have potential as bioactive, but essential oils from leaf of Surian are most effective. Test results showed that biolarvacidal essential oil from Surian has potential as a mosquito biolarvacidal against A. aegypti.
